Every activity requires some sort of a dressing decorum that is appropriate for such activity. You can’t go all black to a white party now, can you? That said, the same notion can be applied to the world of body building. There are certain fashion codes that revolve around bodybuilding clothes, although such code is not directly inscribed unto paper nor is it a legal and binding contract that coerces all bodybuilders to comply. But simply put, body building has its sense of fashion. And with its sense of fashion comes a sense of purpose and design.
The gym short is perhaps the most common and unadulterated piece of bodybuilding clothes that has seen little changes throughout the years. Although athletic companies have made huge strides in manufacturing gym shorts, the fact remains that people like their shorts short for comfort and convenience, as well as optimum range of motion.
Traditional gym shorts are made of cotton, but they can be drenched in so much sweat that the added weight can take a toll on the wearer’s legs. Modern gym shorts and other bodybuilding clothes are now made with a special kind of fabric that allows the air to dry the sweat very quickly, while cooling the body, which in turn makes the wearer function much better.
The rib tank is the usual top of choice for men who spend a significant time of their lives toning and defining their muscles. A man’s closet of bodybuilding clothes is not complete if there is no rib tank in it. This piece of bodybuilding fashion has catapulted the image of a bodybuilder, as it became popular in the 1980s. At the time, bodybuilding gyms distributed rib tanks with their logos to their patrons. Eventually, the rib tank became a fashion statement, with designers mixing the rib tank and making it a part of a street fashion culture.
For women, bodybuilding clothes usually mean a sports bra. First called a jockbra, this fashion piece for bodybuilding and other physically involved and engaging females is designed to hold the female breasts in place while doing a physically rigorous activity. Though the first sports bra received a lot of complaints such as sore breasts and chaffed skin, advances in clothing science and fashion soon helped made the sports bra more comfortable and reliable.
A pair of a reliable gym shoes, preferably the cross-training kind, should be the requisite footwear for any bodybuilding enthusiast or a pure gym rat. Cross-training shoes are designed for track, indoor, and outdoor flooring, which is critical in a bodybuilding atmosphere. A pair of poorly made footwear could lead to slips, which can be a cause for serious injuries especially in an environment like a bodybuilding gym.
Each item of bodybuilding clothes has its own purpose individually. Collectively, they help the wearer achieve his or her goal, to attain a muscular body. If this is your goal, then you better pick your bodybuilding wardrobe carefully. It may be cool to look good while pumping iron in the gym, but there is nothing cool if you can’t dress right.
