If you have been living under the rock for years and have just resurfaced, chances are you have not heard of the winder fruit that everybody is going gaga about. The acai berry (pronounced a-sah-eee) is making rounds as a natural weight loss supplement and a refreshing yet health beverage for people who love smoothies and juices. But before you dive in the mix, you better know what the acai berry is all about.
Here are the five things you might need to know before you stuff yourself with acai berries:
1. Acai berries are not genetically enhanced fruits that have been grown and harvested from secret labs. The acai berry comes from the acai palm, which is native to Central and South Americas. It has long been a staple part of Latin Americans’ diets for hundreds of years. Up to this day, many Latin American athletes are known to take pure acai berries and acau berry juices as part of their training program. Royce Gracie, a mixed martial arts champion, is one of the most vocal Latin American athlete who advocates acai berries.
2. Acai berries are revealed to contain high amounts of antioxidants, amino acids, and natural fiber. All three have been proven to promote better health by boosting the human body’s immune system, promoting cell regeneration and faster healing process for torn tissues, ligaments, and tendons, better eyesight, heightening a person’s levels of stamina and endurance, reduced risks of cancers and heart diseases, slowing down the aging process, and cleaning the digestive tract to name a few.
3. The acai berry storm has even caught big beverage manufacturers and persuaded them to join the band wagon. Pepsi Co. has launched its own line of acai berry beverages, the Purple Machine. Anheuser Busch also introduced 180 Blue, its own acai berry-cored energy drink.
4. Like many successful and marketably profitable product, scammers and con artists have also designed schemes centered on the acai berry. Fake acai berry supplements, pills, and juices are now rampant over the place, much like diet pills and ineffective exercise machines and gym equipment.
5. If Oprah Winfrey featured acai berry on her show, that should tell you one thing – this acai berry is really working. Many people who have testified on its effectiveness on national TV were all teary-eyed while relating their hardships prior to losing weight. Either that or Oprah Winfrey herself is a scammer (highly unlikely).
Now you have all the knowledge and inside wisdom you need to absorb, perhaps it is about time you should see for yourself whether the stuff is what they say it is. But do not expect to see your excess fat melt like butter and flush out from your system. Weight loss in particular and healthy living in general requires tremendous effort. Now that is something you already know.
